Dinnington Town tightened their grip at the top of the table with a ruthless 6-0 demolition of Harworth Colliery, extending their lead to 10 points as they edge closer to their dream of promotion.
Billed as a potentially tricky encounter, Dinnington Town wasted no time in stamping their authority on proceedings, racing out of the traps with a blistering start that left Harworth reeling.
Liam Royles set the tone with just five minutes on the clock, latching onto a loose ball to fire the hosts into an early lead.
The momentum was all with Dinnington Town, and they doubled their advantage in the 13th minute as Nat Jessop turned home a well-worked move to make it 2-0.
Brad Kerr then got in on the act, finding the net in the 27th minute to effectively put the game to bed before half-time.
His strike ensured Dinnington Town went into the break with a commanding 3-0 lead, their dominance on full display.
After the restart, there was no let-up. Kerr bagged his second of the night in the 56th minute—his 25th and 26th goals of the season keeping him atop the league’s goal-scoring charts—as he turned home with trademark precision to make it 4-0.
Shaun Tuton added a fifth in the 75th minute, after Harworth failed to clear their lines, before Jay Atkin put the icing on the cake in the 85th minute to complete the rout.
The emphatic win keeps Dinnington Town firmly in control of their promotion push with just seven league games to play.
However, with Doncaster City sitting 10 points behind but boasting three games in hand, the race is far from over.
A season-defining clash looms in the coming weeks as the two title contenders prepare to face off at the Blackout13.com Arena in what promises to be a blockbuster encounter.
For now, though, Dinnington Town will savour another dominant performance as they continue their relentless march towards the championship.
Dinnington Town are next in action on Saturday 22nd February, at home to Worksop Town Reserves in the Black Dragon Premier Division North. Kick-off is at 3:00pm.
