Full Time: Staveley Miners Welfare Reserves 2-1 Dinnington Town

Dinnington Town's promotion hopes suffered a significant setback on Wednesday evening as they were beaten 2–1 by Staveley Miners Welfare Reserves.

Travelling to face a determined Staveley Miners Welfare Reserves side, Dinnington Town knew the importance of securing a positive result as the promotion race continues to tighten.

However, despite a late response, the visitors were ultimately left frustrated as the hosts claimed all three points.

The opening stages were closely contested, with both sides looking to establish control. Dinnington Town worked hard to settle into the match, but it was the hosts who found the breakthrough as the first half progressed.

Alex Coates opened the scoring for Staveley Miners Welfare Reserves in the 35th minute to give the home side a 1–0 advantage heading into the closing stages of the first half.

Dinnington Town pushed for a response before the break, but the hosts managed the remainder of the half well and carried their lead into the interval.

Dinnington Town emerged for the second half looking to respond, but the task became more difficult shortly after the restart.

Joshua Nicholls doubled the advantage for Staveley Miners Welfare Reserves in the 48th minute, extending the lead to 2–0 and placing the visitors under further pressure.

Despite the setback, Dinnington Town continued to press forward in search of a route back into the contest. Their persistence was rewarded in the 74th minute when Ali Elkossi reduced the deficit to 2–1, setting up a tense final period as the visitors attempted to salvage something from the match.

However, the momentum quickly shifted once again moments later when Jordan Turner was shown a red card in the 83rd minute, leaving Dinnington Town to play the closing stages with ten men.

The dismissal halted the visitors’ push for an equaliser and allowed Staveley Miners Welfare Reserves to manage the final minutes of the game.

Despite a determined effort late on, Dinnington Town were unable to find a leveller as the hosts held firm to secure a 2–1 victory.

Next up, Dinnington Town are away to Kinsley Boys in the league on Saturday. Kick-off is at 3:00pm.
