Dinnington Town produced a determined second-half display to overturn a first-half deficit and progress to the next round of the Abacus Floodlit Cup on Tuesday night, beating Worksop Town 3-1 at the Blackout13.com Arena.
The visitors edged ahead shortly before the break when Alex Russell headed home in the 42nd minute, giving Worksop Town a narrow lead at half-time.
Despite trailing at the interval, Dinnington Town showed no signs of panic, regrouping well and gradually taking control of the tie after the restart.
Their persistence was rewarded midway through the second half when Josh Stead levelled the scores on 67 minutes to make it 1-1.
The equaliser gave Dinnington Town fresh momentum, and they continued to press forward with confidence.
Just over ten minutes later, Liam Royles put Dinnington Town in front from the spot in the 78th minute, completing the turnaround and shifting the balance firmly in the hosts’ favour.
With the game deep into stoppage time, Connor Peace sealed the victory in the 95th minute to confirm Dinnington Town’s place in the next round.
At full time, managr Gary Eades said " We made changes tonight to both personnel and formation and it didn' treally work. When we adjusted things we were better. I thought the depth of the squad won us the football match."
Next up, Dinnington Town are at home to Ollerton Town in the league on Saturday. Kick-off is at 3:00pm.
