Dinnington Town produced a commanding home performance on Saturday afternoon as they swept aside SJR Worksop 5-1 at the Blackout13.com Arena.
The result gave the hosts an important three points and plenty of encouragement to take forward, with the return of Jordan Turner proving the standout story of the day.
The game opened with Dinnington Town on the front foot, applying early pressure and moving the ball with confidence. Their intent was rewarded inside the opening quarter of an hour when Liam Royles struck in the 14th minute to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage.
The goal settled any nerves and allowed Dinnington Town to take control of the contest.
That grip on the game tightened further in the 34th minute as Steven Taylor doubled the lead, giving the home side a deserved cushion at 2-0.
By the time the half-time whistle arrived, Dinnington Town looked comfortable, while SJR Worksop struggled to find a way through a well-organised defence.
The second half saw SJR Worksop attempt to force their way back into the contest, and their perseverance paid off midway through the half. In the 65th minute, Jake Scott found the net to narrow the deficit to 2-1, briefly raising the prospect of a tense finale at the Blackout13.com Arena.
However, the introduction of Jordan Turner, earlier than anticipated as Brad Kerr picked up a niggle, in the 52nd minute proved decisive.
Making his return for Dinnington Town, Turner gradually worked his way into the match before exploding into life in the closing stages.
He had already gone close before finally opening his account in the 81st minute, restoring the two-goal cushion at 3-1.
Turner wasn’t finished there. Just eight minutes later, he struck again to make it 4-1 and all but secure the points.
Then, deep into stoppage time, Dinnington Town were awarded a penalty for a foul on Turner. Turner confidently stepped up and completed his hat-trick in the 92nd minute, rounding off an incredible eleven-minute spell that left the home crowd delighted.
By the final whistle, Dinnington Town were celebrating a resounding 5-1 win, their attacking quality and determination shining through.
Turner’s return gave the afternoon an extra layer of significance. His four shots and three goals will prove to be a formidable strike force for Dinnington Town, alongside Brad Kerr, as the season unfolds.
Next up, Dinnington Town are away to Glapwell Saturday 13th September. Kick-off is at 3:00pm.
