Dinnington Town returned to league action with a crucial away fixture against Elite AFC, knowing their hopes of promotion remained slim and heavily dependent on results elsewhere.
With little margin for error, the equation was simple. Seven wins from seven in April were required to keep any realistic chance alive, and even that might not be enough to force a dramatic finish.
The visitors began the contest brightly and looked to impose themselves early, but it was Elite AFC who struck first against the run of play, taking the lead inside six minutes to put immediate pressure on Dinnington Town.
Despite the early setback, Dinnington Town responded with composure and gradually worked their way back into the game.
Their persistence was rewarded in the 21st minute when Jordan Turner found the equaliser to bring the score level at 1–1.
The remainder of the first half remained competitive, with both sides battling against difficult conditions, but neither could find a breakthrough before the interval.
Emerging for the second half with renewed purpose, Dinnington Town began to assert greater control of the contest. Their pressure told in the 58th minute when Gab Oloko put the visitors ahead at 1–2, marking his first goal for the club.
As the half progressed, Dinnington Town continued to manage the game effectively, withstanding periods of resistance from the hosts. Oloko added his second of the afternoon in the 76th minute to extend the advantage to 1–3, further strengthening Dinnington Town’s grip on the match.
With the game moving into its closing stages, Dinnington Town maintained their discipline at both ends of the pitch.
Jordan Turner then completed the scoring in the 90th minute, securing his brace and sealing a 1–4 victory to round off a controlled and professional performance away from home.
After the match, manager Gary Eades reflected on a challenging afternoon, praising both the performance and the resilience shown by his side:
“Difficult conditions today in more ways than one. The weather was a test and we had a lot of players missing. We handled both really well and after a sticky start, and a bit of resistance during the second half, we scored at the right times and defended really well, a comfortable win in the end.”
Next up, Dinnington Town play at away to Teversal in the league on Tuesday. Kick-off is at 7:45pm.
