Full Time: Elite AFC 1-5 Dinnington Town

Dinnington Town booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Sheffield & Hallamshire FA County Cups with an emphatic 1–5 victory away at Elite AFC on a windswept afternoon at the Dorothy Hyman Sports Centre.

The conditions were dreadful from the outset, with driving wind and persistent rain threatening to turn the tie into a battle of attrition.

Dinnington Town were forced to work hard in the early stages, and Elite AFC made the brighter start, taking the lead inside ten minutes.

Despite the setback, Dinnington Town responded with composure.

The visitors gradually asserted control of the contest and found their equaliser through Kieron Mortimer in the 22nd minute to level at 1–1.

The momentum continued to swing, and although Dinnington Town missed a penalty around the half-hour mark, their pressure eventually told shortly before the break when Nat Jessop struck in the 42nd minute to send them in ahead at 1–2.

Emerging for the second half with purpose, Dinnington Town extended their advantage almost immediately.

Brad Kerr added the third goal in the 47th minute, widening the gap to 1–3 and settling the side into a rhythm they would maintain throughout the remainder of the match.

Jordan Turner then added the fourth just before the hour, making it 1–4 and effectively taking the contest away from the hosts.

As the match moved into its closing stages, Dinnington Town continued to manage the game with maturity.

Kieron Mortimer completed his brace in the 85th minute to round off the scoring at 1–5 and underline a dominant away performance under difficult circumstances.

After the game, manager Gary Eades praised his side’s resilience and reaction to going behind:

“I thought we were excellent today. We handled the conditions very well. We reacted very well to going one down and weathered a good spell from the opponents. We killed the game early in the second half and the response to the half-time team talk was unreal, I thought that won us the game! Should be a big draw and test in the next round.”

With this commanding win, Dinnington Town now await the quarter-final draw as their County Cup campaign gathers momentum.

Next up, Dinnington Town are at home on Saturday to Staveley Miners Welfare in the league. Kick-off is at 3:00pm.
