Full Time: Staveley Miners Welfare 1-2 Dinnington Town

Dinnington Town lifted the Abacus Lighting Floodlit Cup under the lights producing a composed and resilient performance to overcome Staveley Miners Welfare Reserves in a closely contested final at Alfreton Town’s Impact Arena.


Having previously lost and drawn against Staveley Miners Welfare Reserves in league competition, Dinnington Town entered the final with a point to prove, and they made an early breakthrough to settle into the occasion.


The opening stages were competitive, with both sides adjusting to the tempo of a cup final under the lights. Dinnington Town took the lead inside six minutes when Kieron Mortimer made it 0–1, giving his side an early advantage.


The remainder of the first half was played at a good intensity, with both teams contributing to an entertaining contest.


Staveley Miners Welfare Reserves arguably edged large spells of possession and territory, but clear-cut chances remained at a premium as Dinnington Town maintained their defensive structure.


Dinnington Town went into the break leading 0–1, having shown discipline and organisation to protect their advantage.


The second half began in ideal fashion for Dinnington Town, who extended their lead shortly after the restart. In the 47th minute, Sam Eckhardt capitalised on a poor pass from the goalkeeper after Nat Jessop brilliantly closed him down to make it 0–2, putting further control into their hands.


The game then entered a more heated phase, as Staveley Miners Welfare Reserves were awarded a penalty following a challenge in the box. It looked like the the ball was clearly won prior to the contact but the referee awarded a penatly.


Protests followed from the opposition, with calls for a dismissal, but the referee correctly issued a yellow card and pointed to the spot.


The resulting penalty blazed horribly wide, allowing Dinnington Town to maintain their two-goal cushion.


Staveley Miners Welfare Reserves responded in the 64th minute, reducing the deficit to 1–2 and setting up a tense final period.


From that point, Dinnington Town were required to show resilience as pressure increased from their opponents.


The side remained organised and disciplined, managing the game effectively through the closing stages to preserve their lead.


At full-time, Dinnington Town secured a hard-earned victory to lift the Abacus Lighting Floodlit Cup, marking their second cup success in two years and underlining their ability to deliver in key moments.


Next up, Dinnington Town play at home in the semi final of the Buckingham Insurance Challenge Cup against Kinsley Boys. Kick-off is at 7:45pm.
