Dinnington Town produced a battling performance on Saturday afternoon to secure a 2-1 away victory over Woodhouse Colts, with a stoppage-time winner sealing progression into the next round of the cup.
The visitors made the ideal start, striking early through Ash Cooper in the 10th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
That advantage was short-lived, however, as Woodhouse Colts hit back before the interval to level the contest at 1-1, ensuring the game remained finely balanced at the break.
The second half proved to be a closely fought affair, with both sides creating opportunities but unable to find a breakthrough.
As the match entered stoppage time, it looked as though more time would be needed to settle the cup tie.
But Dinnington Town had the final say. Deep into added time, Logan Liggins struck to make it 2-1, sparking jubilant celebrations among the players and travelling supporters.
The late goal capped a determined team effort and underlined the resilience within the side.
Speaking after the match, manager Gary Eades said: “We made plenty of changes so I knew it might be a bit disjointed but we still created more than enough to win. To snatch it at the death was a brilliant way to finish and great to see the lads celebrate together.”
Next up, Dinnington Town are away to Nostell Miners Welfare on Tuesday 30th. Kick-off is at 7:45pm.
